Forum closure update

Since we’ve closed the forum, we’re aware that you’ve been emailing jo.fitzsimmons@selfharm.co.uk to share about what’s going on in your life and to ask for advice or support. Please be aware that this email address is no longer being monitored. This is because SelfharmUK is a small team and we don’t have the capacity to support everyone’s individual needs within our replies. However (click tittle to keep reading)...

Despite this, there are lots of things we can do and will continue to help you with:

We can help you by offering group support in our safe, secure and confidential self-harm programme, Alumina. By signing up our team can be in weekly contact with you in the sessions and help you think about how your emotions affect your self-harm.

Our website can also support you on your bad days: we offer a message of hope to remind you to stay strong, as well as we practical tools for ways you can help yourself and links to other support websites where you can go to get more individual support.

Sometimes you might find apps a helpful way to remind yourself to look after your mental health and to get help when you need it. You can download them to your phone and have them with you at all times. Here are a few links to some apps we think you might find useful when you’re struggling with your mental health:

(These apps have been approved for use by the NHS).

(This app is awesome! It gives you access to chat 1-2-1 with a counsellor at any time).

(These apps also include support around self-harm, depression and anxiety, and eating disorders).

Whatever is going on for you right now, know that you deserve the support you need. Love, The SelfharmUK Team x

ALUMINA

Alumina is a free, online 7 week course for young people struggling with self-harm. Each course has up to 8 young people, all accessing the sessions from their own phones, tablets or laptops across the UK. The courses take place on different evenings of the week and are run by friendly, trained counsellors and volunteer youth workers. You don’t need an adult to refer you or sign you up, and no-one will see or hear you during the sessions – you’ll just join in via the chatbox. We want to help you to find your next steps towards recovery, wherever you are on your journey.
